For the second time in as many matches, the Oral Roberts women's soccer team snatched a victory in extra time, defeating McNeese State on the road, 2-1.
Whitney Booth scored the deciding goal in the 97th minute for the Golden Eagles off an assist from Jennifer Abernathy.
The victory improves the Golden Eagles record to 9-4-2 overall and 3-1-0. In overtime matches this season, the Golden Eagles are 3-1-2, winning all three in consecutive opportunities. The Golden Eagles are now 7-1-1 in their last nine matches.
Earning the win between the posts was sophomore keeper Helen Erb. She finished the contest with five saves.
The Golden Eagle offense started the game on the attack with Booth and Kayla Keller getting shots off within the first nine minutes. Finally, ORU broke through in the 10th minute as Booth set up Allison Hall perfectly off a corner kick. Hall finished the play by placing a header in the back of the net for her second goal of the season.
Shots were hard to come by in the defensive battle. The Golden Eagles entered the locker room at halftime with a 5-2 shot advantage over the Cowgirls, three of which were on goal.
When the match eventually came to a close, ORU had rattled off 10 shots, led by Booth with four. Of her four shots, Booth had three on goal, while Ashley Martin add two and Megan Giles and Hall each finished with one.
The Cowgirls' goal came just inside the 67th minute, as Brennan Moss was in the right place at the right time, turning a Erb save into a goal, finishing on a rebound following a shot off the foot of Callie Allbright.
Up next for the Golden Eagles is the back side of their Louisiana roadtrip as they travel to Thibodaux to face Nicholls State at 1 p.m. on Sunday. Nicholls State fell to Southeastern Louisiana on Friday.
