State Names Section Of Highway 75 For ODOT Employee Killed On The Job

The Oklahoma Department of Transportation honored the memory of one its own Tuesday morning, naming a one mile stretch of U.S. Highway 75 north of Ramona after an ODOT worker killed on the job.

Ira Henderson of Bartlesville was struck and killed in November 2011. He had only been on the job five months.

Fellow ODOT employees, family and friends were on hand as state officials dedicated the Ira Lee Henderson Memorial Highway in Washington County.

Widow Lisa Henderson wore a memorial T-shirt decorated with the last photo taken of her husband. She said he was a man with a great smile who loved people and motorcycles.

Mrs. Henderson said it will be difficult to drive by the signs naming her husband, but that it is an honor - one she hopes will make a difference.

"I want people to slow down in the work zones; pay attention," she said. "This shouldn't have to happen again.
