A driver trying to beat the light to make it to work Saturday morning was instead involved in a two-car crash, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

The collision took place at about 6:15 a.m. at the intersection of South 81st West Avenue and Charles Page Boulevard in Sand Springs.

Trooper Matthew Hughart told News On 6 that the young man on his way to work was hit by a driver who had the green light. The second man was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries, the trooper said.

"We didn't detect any alcohol," Hughart said. "Everybody's kind of tired and sleepy this time of morning."

The trooper had advice for drivers going through an intersection.

"Don't try to beat the light," he said. "It just costs you a few more seconds to stand by and wait for the light to turn green."

Tulsa wreck

Also on Saturday, Tulsa Police responded to an early morning wreck and found no driver.

Officers went to the intersection of 15th and Lewis at about 5 a.m. for a single vehicle crash. They say the driver was turning onto Lewis and smashed into a utility pole.

The driver then fled the scene.
