Area churches, businesses and organizations are assisting Oklahoma wildfire victims who have lost their homes.

The Sand Springs United Methodist Church is not only providing a place for the Red Cross Shelter but is a central collection and distribution point for donations. They are accepting donations at their 4th and Main location in Sand Springs.

Pastor Don Tabberer said they have enough clothing donations except for 3T toddler clothing.

Most immediate needs:

  • Towels and washcloths
  • Diapers
  • Personal hygiene items like razors, shaving cream, deodorant, denture supplies, toothbrushes and toothpaste

"We had one poor couple come through here last night who told us their teeth were burned up in the fire," he said.

"Many of these people are older," he said.

LakeChurch of Mannford is located at "ground zero," the junction of Highways 51 and 48. They are accepting donations for wildfire victims who lost their homes.

News On 6 reporter Tara Vreeland spoke to volunteers and donors at the Mannford church.

The groups are also looking for people and businesses that can donate storage space for furniture and appliances, and skilled laborers that will be able to help rebuild.

"As people rebuild, they are going to need larger items and building products such as lumber," Pastor Tabberer said.

"These people in Mannford have lost everything down to the ground. It's going to be months and years before this thing is over," he said.

If you can help with storage space and other goods and services, call Sand Springs United Methodist Church at 918-245-5955.
