An 82-year-old Tulsa woman died early Tuesday morning from injuries received in a car wreck Monday, June 25.

Mary Emily Walker was a passenger in a 2011 Kia Rio that struck a semi trailer truck on the Will Rogers Turnpike near Vinita Monday afternoon, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

Troopers say the Kia's driver, 52-year-old Margaret Ann Walker, was trying to pass the semi as both vehicles were eastbound on the turnpike.

The car went into a broadside slide and hit the semi on the driver's side of the cab. The car rolled two times, coming to rest on its wheels. The semi ran off the roadway to the right and hit a guardrail.

Mary Emily Walker was taken to Freeman Hospital in Joplin in critical condition. She died at 12:30 a.m. Tuesday. Margaret Ann Walker was hospitalized and listed in stable condition, according to the collision report.

The truck driver was not injured.

The cause of the collision is listed as unsafe speed. The Kia driver was in apparently normal condition at the time of the wreck, troopers say.
