Tulsa Public Schools is lowering the price for tickets for the upcoming school year.

In a news release Monday, the district said the reason was to increase student attendance.  Student ticket prices for all levels of athletics will be reduced to $3 each.  The old price for football, for example, was $6 for everyone.

Included in the price reduction will be the senior citizen discount ticket which will also be $3 for anyone 65 years and older.

Students and seniors citizens will be required to show a valid I.D. in order to purchase reduced price tickets.

"We want to make our athletics contests affordable for all groups and most certainly our students," said Gil Cloud, TPS athletics director. "By rolling back the student price of admission we hope to encourage more students to attend their schools' athletic events."

Cloud also said the senior discount is an effort to encourage the citizens of Tulsa who have supported TPS for years to once again engage with their local schools and students.

The new prices will take effect at the beginning of fall semester.
