The Tulsa Golden Hurricane split a double-header with the Marshall Thundering Herd Saturday, falling 6-0 in the opening game, but coming out on top 1-0 in the second game.
In the opening game, Marshall pitcher Andi Williams was dominant, pitching a complete-game, giving up five hits and striking out five in the shutout. Aimee Creger struggled more than usual for the Golden Hurricane, giving up six earned runs on four hits in 5.1 innings.
The Thundering Herd did most of its damage in the sixth inning, thanks to a two-run home run by Jazmine Valle in the top of the sixth.
The second game was also dominated by pitching performances, with both teams carrying shutouts into the seventh inning, with pitcher Lacey Middlebrooks coming up big for the Golden Hurricane.
With the bases loaded, the TU starter singled to right center, to bring Samantha Cobb home to take a 1-0 lead into the final half-inning of the game. She then came in to retire three of the next four batters to end the game.
She was credited with a win, giving up just two hits and striking out seven in her seven innings of service. Natalie Pulman also turned in a gem, giving up just five hits in seven innings, but the one earned run was the difference.
The Golden Hurricane will try to make it three in a row at 11 a.m. Sunday, weather-permitting.
