TULSA, Oklahoma – Sources tell News On 6 that Missouri State assistant coach Steve Woodberry will take an assistant coaching position with new Tulsa basketball coach Danny Manning.
Woodberry has been an assistant coach with the Bears for the past seven seasons, originally joining the MSU coaching staff during the summer of 2006.
Like Manning, Woodberry is also a Kansas alum and played on two national semifinal teams during his time from 1990-94. They missed out on ever playing with each other at KU, however, as Manning was a Jayhawk from 1984-88.
Woodberry was on the sidelines at Saturday's Tulsa football spring game with Manning and athletic director Ross Parmley on Saturday, and was wearing a TU jacket.
He was originally hired at Missouri State by former ORU coach Barry Hinson. Hinson worked with Danny Manning for the past four years at Kansas.
Woodberry brings with him strong ties to the Kansas City recruiting area, having been a former AAU coach himself. He helped recruit standout Kyle Weems to Missouri State, where Weems eventually won the Missouri Valley Player of the Year Award last season.
