A seventh grader at Hale Junior High was injured after being clipped by a sport utility vehicle in a crosswalk.

Police say the boy was crossing 21st Street in the 6700 block just before 8 a.m. Monday. The crosswalk is just northwest of Hale High School. The student was crossing north when a Ford Explorer heading east in the outside lane struck his wrist with the driver's side mirror.

The driver told police the light was green but visibility poor due to the angle of the sun. The student said he had the green light to cross the intersection.

No citations were issued. The student was taken to a Tulsa hospital with minor injuries.

Witnesses at the scene told News On 6 the boy was a student at Whitney Middle School, but a district spokeswoman says Whitney no longer exists and the student attends Hale Junior High.
