The Muscogee (Creek) Nation Emergency Response Team (MCN ERT) began training on March 14, 2012 to become certified in Wilderness Search and Rescue.

The 25 members of the MCN ERT respond to areas within the Muscogee (Creek) Nation during disasters and emergencies. Many of the team members have already been certified in CPR, first aid, ropes rescue, swiftwater rescue and CERT.

"This Wilderness Search and Rescue will become another tool in our tool box so that we can help not only Creek citizens but the citizens within our jurisdiction and the state of Oklahoma" MCN Emergency Manager James Nichols said.

The MCN ERT will complete over 40 hours of training and then be evaluated by the National Association of Search and Rescue (NASAR) before becoming certified.

The training involves classroom and hands-on skills such as map-reading, survival, grid searches and patient packaging.
