The Tulsa Golden Hurricane softball team jumped out to an early lead and Aimee Creger kept North Texas in check, knocking off the Mean Green 6-1, pulling off a clean sweep of the Hyatt Downtown Tulsa Tournament Sunday.
Tulsa jumped out to a two-run lead in the bottom of the first inning with one swing of the bat. With two outs on the board and a runner on base, Skylar Swanson put one over the right field wall to put the Golden Hurricane up 2-0.
Creger kept the North Texas offense off balance, giving up just one run – a solo home run in the top of the fourth – to receive credit for the win. She finished the game after five full innings, giving up one earned run, but struck out eight of the 18 batters she faced.
The Golden Hurricane tagged on four runs in the bottom of the fourth on two RBI doubles, a one-run double from Cassidy Bowen and a three-run hit from Jill Barrett, to take a 6-1 lead.
Lauren Poole was credited with a loss for the outing, giving up four earned runs on five hits in just three innings of service for the Mean Green.
The Golden Hurricane will remain in Tulsa, hosting the Oklahoma State Cowgirls at 5 p.m. Wednesday.
