It's happened to everybody. Someone knocks on your door, trying to sell you something. But how do you know if that person is trying to con you?
Tulsa city councilor G.T. Bynum is hoping to make some changes in city ordinances to make homeowners feel safer.
G.T. Bynum says con men pose as salesmen all the time so he's trying to make it harder for them to do that.
Bynum is pushing an ordinance that would require door-to-door salespeople to be licensed in Tulsa.
It may sound like a new idea, but our city is actually behind the curve. Oklahoma City and several other metro areas across the country already have similar laws.
"Because of that, what you see are even now out-of-state con men targeting the city of Tulsa and its residents with this type of activity because it's not regulated here," said Bynum.
He says they tried to copy Oklahoma City's ordinance, but says that just won't work well with Tulsa.
Bynum says the city prosecutor has drafted a new proposed ordinance and he plans to review it this week.
