The Kialegee Tribal Town has been awarded a grant from the Department of Housing and Urban Development for affordable housing development and services.
In a HUD news release, the Kialegee Tribal Town, a federally recognized Oklahoma Indian tribe in Wetumka, is getting $117,705 in Indian Housing Block Grants.
IHBG funds are intended to primarily benefit low-income families living on Indian reservations or in other communities.
Eligible activities for the funds include housing development, assistance to housing developed under the Indian Housing Program, housing services to eligible families and individuals, crime prevention and safety.
The tribe is in the middle of a controversy involving the building of a casino in Broken Arrow. The Kialegee's are building on land just north of the Creek Turnpike on 129th East Avenue.
