NewsOn6.com has confirmed that former Union champion wrestler Ronnie Balfour died Tuesday after battling leukemia at the age of 20.
Balfour was an individual champion for the Redskins in his senior year at Union, later signing to wrestle for the Oklahoma Sooners. He was diagnosed with acute myelogenous leukemia, a form of cancer that begins in the bone marrow, and was hospitalized during the battle.
During his time at Union, Balfour was one of the top wrestlers in the state of Oklahoma, finishing his career at Union ranked in the top 10 of three major statistical categories, including wins with 108.
The Oklahoma athletics department has established a fund in order to help the family pay medical bills. Donations can be made to the OU Foundation:
