AUBURN, Alabama – Regardless of what their opponent was ranked, it was still a rough way to finish up a lousy weekend for the Cowgirls.
15th-ranked Oklahoma State finished up a winless weekend with a 3-1 loss to No. 2 Alabama on Sunday, finishing out play in the ACC/Big 12/SEC Challenge.
The loss finished out a tough set of three games that also included losses to Virginia Tech (3-0) and Auburn (8-0 in five).
The Crimson Tide got on the board in the first inning off a solo homer to left field from Cassie Reilly-Boccia to go up 1-0.
But OSU senior Kelsey Anchors responded in the fourth inning with a solo shot of her own to right.
It was the only hit of the game for Oklahoma State and its only run scored of the entire weekend.
Alabama bounced right back with its second solo home run, this time by Kendall Dawson to take the lead for good.
OSU had a shot in the bottom of the fifth, as an error and two walked loaded the bases with two outs, but the Cowgirls left them all stranded and couldn't capitalize.
Simone Freeman got the start in the circle for the Cowgirls but picked up the loss, moving to 2-2 on the year. Jackie Traina got the win for Alabama to move to 5-0.
Oklahoma State (4-4 overall) will hit the field again next weekend as they travel to Palm Springs to take part in the Cathedral City Classic.
The first game of the weekend will start at 12:30 p.m. on Friday.
