Many churches have a group of folks who spend their free time knitting and sewing for others. At First Baptist Church in downtown Tulsa the group produces prayer shawls and lap blankets.
Over the years they've made dozens, probably hundreds. Their efforts produce good fellowship for each other, and comfort for others.
The ladies meet every Thursday morning. Sometimes there a few, other times more will show up. They knit or sew prayer shawls or lap blankets for folks who need them.
"Our ministers take them to our members who are in the hospital," said Sharon McDaniel.
They knit caps for people undergoing chemo-therapy.
Everyone seems to have a specialty. Lenora Gardner knits tiny blankets to wrap up a mini teddy bear for newborns, and she's busy.
"There have been 50 new babies maybe 75," she said.
"Then you're probably behind,"
They've all found something they love to do.
"We have great fellowship when we meet together," McDaniel said.
And to know that what they are doing brings peace and comfort to someone who needs it.
