An Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper is being commended for saving the life of a passenger involved in a rollover crash at the Nowata-Rogers County line Wednesday afternoon.
The OHP says an SUV heading south on U.S. Highway 169 had driven off the highway and rolled over into a ditch filled with water.
The trooper, Scott Shropshire, was nearby and responded when he heard the emergency call. He found the SUV's passenger wedged between the front driver's seat and a window pillar.
Shropshire got into the SUV which was filling with water and held the victim's head above water until fire crews were able to rescue the victim.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says the male passenger weighed in excess of 300 pounds.
