A Tulsa man is in custody after he brandished a knife during a confrontation with two EMSA paramedics late Tuesday night.

EMSA says the two paramedics were asked to check on a man down behind the QuikTrip at 11th and Utica.  When they did, the man, identified as 29-year-old Johnny Ray Wheeler, woke up and refused medical attention.

The paramedics say they turned to leave, but Wheeler followed them and became hostile.  EMSA says that's when Wheeler pulled a knife.

A short scuffle ensued and the paramedics subdued Wheeler until Tulsa Police arrived.

Police arrested Wheeler and booked him into the Tulsa County jail on complaints of assault and battery on emergency personnel and public intoxication.

The two paramedics were not injured.
