The city of Tulsa has changed several streets near Kendall-Whittier Elementary School from two-way traffic to one-way traffic effective Monday.

Officials say the reason is improved safety for students during school drop-off and pick-up periods.

The changes include:

  • East Fifth Place between South Atlanta Avenue and South Columbia Avenue will be one-way westbound only.
  • South Columbia Avenue will be one-way northbound only.
  • The intersection at East Fifth Place and South Atlanta Avenue will change to an all-way stop.

South Birmingham Avenue is not affected by the new traffic plan, except that the on-street parking will change from the west side to the east side of the street.

School officials says they will have staff along the streets to help parents and residents adjust to the new traffic flow.
