A big second half run from the Golden Eagles lifted them to a 65-54 win over IPFW Thursday, extending their win streak to 10, and marking their ninth conference win.
Four minutes into the second half, the Mastodons led 35-32, but the Golden Eagles snapped off a 13-2 run, including eight from Dominique Morrison, to take an eight point lead with 11 minutes left to play. Two minutes later, the lead expanded to double-digits with a pair of free throws from Morrison to take a 52-41 lead.
With five minutes left to play, Tulsa moved to put the Mastodons away for good, punching in a quick six – capped by a fast break dunk from Damen Bell-Holter – to take a 60-45 lead late in the game. IPFW finished the game on a 9-5 run, but couldn't close the lead.
Dominique Morrison was the only ORU player to score in double-digits, turning in 27 points, five rebounds and two blocks with the win on an eight of 15 shooting performance.
Frank Gaines led the charge for the Mastodons, scoring 17 points on a 60 percent shooting performance, while grabbing seven rebounds. Trey McCorkle was the only other IPFW player to hit double-figures, finishing with 11 points and five boards.
Oral Roberts will try to grab No. 10 in conference play at 7:05 p.m. Saturday against Oakland.
