Three people were hurt when a car slammed into an apartment building early Monday morning.
The injured include the two people in the car and a small child who was inside the apartment.
Police say a speeding car didn't make a curve, rolled on its side and crashed into a bedroom - ramming a bed where a 3-year-old girl was sleeping.
Nhung Nguyen is too tired to fully explain his relief that his little girl is OK. Three-year-old Alisa has a few scratches and that's all.
She was in the apartment when a car crashed into it, just after 2 a.m. Monday morning in the 6400 block of 107th East Avenue.. Police say the driver was speeding, but they're not sure if alcohol was involved.
The car had to be cut apart to rescue the driver and a passenger, who were both injured. The impact demolished a corner and wall of the apartment - leaving a little girl buried in debris.
"He had to go in there and dig out the pile to get the kid and he couldn't get it until he found the head of the baby and he pulled the baby out of the pile," said Nhung Nguyen, through an interrupter.
The Nguyen's and paramedics examined Alisa - but could hardly believe she wasn't hurt. She was taken to a hospital to make sure - but sent home within hours.
"He thought it was an earthquake, and he got up and everything was falling, the ceiling, the rock," Nguyen said, through an interrupter.
Monday, the apartment complex helped the family load up their belongings and moved them to another unit.
The family is worn out after being up most of the night, and then having to move, but they're happy because Alisa is alive, and unhurt.
The car took out most of a bedroom wall - the one where the little girl was sleeping - and when she was dug out, the family realized a car was right there.
"The car from the baby's head, was only about 6 inches apart," Nguyen said, through an interrupter.
Several hours after the car was hauled away - it caught fire - fortunately in storage instead of when it was lodged in the wall of the apartment.
The family's new apartment is not as close to the curve in the road. Police were unavailable Monday to give us an update on the driver of the car.
