Opposition Grows, Construction Continues On Broken Arrow Casino

Opposition to the Red Clay Casino under construction in Broken Arrow continues to grow. The Creek Nation will talk about its position on the issue for the first time next week.

Creek Nation Chief George Tiger will hold a news conference Monday afternoon. In the meantime, the Kialegee's continue to build and opponents continue to mobilize.

The opposition doesn't believe the Kialegees have the approval needed to open a casino. They believe they'll find more problems with the legal side of things next week.

Thursday night in Broken Arrow, a 1300 seat church was crowded with opponents to the casino - and they're ready to fight in court.

They've got the backing of politicians on just about every level - but the one that counts most is the federal level, where Congressman John Sullivan is confident he can put a stop to the project.

The opponents say the regulations for Indian gaming are clear - and they don't think the Kialegee's are complying with the law.

"And so it kind of flies in the face of the purpose of that law, to go ahead and ignore what is written without following what they're supposed to do," said Jared Cawley of Citizens Against Neighborhood Gaming.

The Kialegee's, through their attorney, say they do have all the permission they need - and construction continues on the site.

Congressman Sullivan meets next Wednesday with federal regulators to get some solid answers.
