Tulsa Police are hoping someone can help them locate a car stolen during a home invasion and assault Wednesday evening in the 700 block of South 89th East Avenue.
The neighborhood near 11th and Mingo, with its big lots and older houses, is generally a quiet, peaceful place to live, but not Tuesday night.
Two men watched a woman go into her house, then kicked in her side garage door.
One of the suspects held her down, his knee in her neck, while the other searched through her house for drugs and electronics.
"When they had her down on the ground, she was too afraid to look up. They were saying, they were going to shoot her," said Tulsa Police Sergeant Shellie Wood.
Wood says they're both black guys, 17-18 years old, around 5 feet 10 and thin. When they couldn't find what they wanted inside, the victim told them just to take her car and leave and they did.
The woman's car, a 2005 4-door white colored Hyundai 350-GL was stolen. [See picture of a similar Hyundai 350-GL to the right.] It has an Oklahoma license plate of 843-DDO.
In addition to taking her car, they also took her cell phone, so she had to run out into the street, asking the neighbors to call for help
"I think it's time the neighborhood to mobilize," said Tulsa Officer Mark Shelton, neighbor,
Mark Shelton not only lives in the area, but is also a Tulsa police officer. He says North of there and South of there, are hot spots for prostitution and drug dealing.
"It's definitely come to a point we need to put out flyers, start collecting email addresses, each other's phone numbers. People need to be willing to sacrifice that little bit of privacy in order to mobilize against the criminal element. That's what it's going to come to," Shelton said.
If you see the car and it has people in it, call 911 right away. If you just see it parked somewhere or have heard people bragging about this crime, call Crime Stoppers at 918-596-COPS.
Police say another similar crime happened just a mile away last month that could be connected.
