Cease-And-Desist Order Issued In Broken Arrow Casino Controversy

Protesters packed the city council meeting, as the board considered a plan by the Kialegee Tribal Town to build the Red Clay Casino.

The casino would sit just north of the Creek Turnpike on 129th East Avenue. Folks who live near the proposed site have protested gaming moving into the neighborhood.

The council unanimously voted to send the tribe a cease-and-desist order. The vote was met with a round of applause from spectators.

"While we can't do anything within the confines of the Indian land, we can send a message to the Creek Nation that we have grave concerns about this," said Broken Arrow Mayor Mike Lester.

The Kialegee Tribal Town is a federally recognized tribe based in Hughes County. Its also affiliated with the Muscogee-Creek Nation.

Broken Arrow city leaders say they plan to send a letter to the Kialegee, the Creek Nation, as well as state and federal leaders to keep the casino from being built.
