A special ceremony Tuesday put Tulsa's Educare Center at the front of the nation's program.

State and school leaders and representatives from the George Kaiser Family Foundation signed the beam that will top off the city's new Educare center.

The new center, near 21st and Sheridan, will be Tulsa's third. Tulsa will be the only city in the country with three Educare centers and Oklahoma will be the only state with four.

The centers focus on young children in low-income parts of the city and their entire families.

"Education is a child's way out of poverty. It is definitely the way and this is such a significant step. It shows the continued commitment of Tulsa," said Janet Barresi, State Superintendent.

The new Educare Center is scheduled to open in August 2012.
