Remains Found In SUV In Tulsa Pond, Vehicle Traced To Missing Woman

TULSA, Oklahoma -- Tulsa Police say a sport utility vehicle recovered from an east Tulsa retention pond belonged to a woman who disappeared on February 14th, 2006.

Police found skeletal remains in the backseat of a SUV which they say belonged to Sheila Scott, who also went by Sheila Sharp.

Scott worked at Avis and was taking classes at TCC to become a paralegal when she and her 1997 Ford Expedition disappeared.

Police say they have spoken to Scott's family.  Detectives say they have not positively matched the remains with the foot found in a shoe at the pond that started the investigation.

The SUV was one of two vehicles found in the pond.

Police told the News On 6 late Friday morning that the car - a Honda sedan - has been identified as stolen.

Tulsa Police dive team members searched the pond at 600 South Mingo after a dog found a tennis shoe with the remains of a woman's foot inside on Tuesday, October 25, 2011.

The murky water interfered with the search, and City of Tulsa Public Works employees began draining the pond Wednesday. As the pond level falls officers walked the perimeter, flagging anything that shouldn't be there.

They believe the pond's deepest point is 11 feet.

A woman who lives nearby was shocked at the find.

"For how long it's been there - I don't know - it's just crazy," said Hailey Day.

Tulsa Police have been guarding the pond around the clock and ask the public to stay clear of the area.

"The car's been in there for quite some time, since 2006 probably, so there's lots of mud, fish, those types of things inside the vehicle," said Tulsa Police Officer Jason Willingham. "It's going to be a long process."

The dive team also found several knives and a gun on the opposite end of the pond. Police don't believe the weapons are connected to the SUV.

Right now, they're focusing on Sheila Scott.

"Trace her steps back once we determine who it is and try to find out if was this an accident or was this a homicide. Those are all questions that we have," Willingham said.

Willingham said they have also uncovered several TV remotes.
