TULSA, Oklahoma -- Tulsa Mayor Dewey Bartlett and his wife Victoria are inviting Tulsans to celebrate Food Day by making healthier choices. The couple will hold a news conference downtown in front of the future Cam's Grocery store at 2 p.m. Monday.
Oklahoma's obesity rate has risen faster than any other state, nearly tripling since 1995, according to a City of Tulsa release. Current, almost 27 percent of Tulsa County adults are obese and 35.7 percent are overweight.
Victoria Bartlett is leading "Get Lean Tulsa," the mayor's community wide health initiative to help families improve their diets and lifestyles.
The news conference will be at 114 S. Detroit Avenue, the future site of one of two grocery stores planned for the downtown area.
