A freeze warning has been posted for most of northern OK for tonight and early Thursday morning. We have some upper 30s on the map this morning but the wind speeds have not allowed the temps to drop into the lower 30s. Tomorrow morning the winds will be calm and the role of dry air will allow the readings to hit the freezing mark for the first time this season. Our friends at the National Weather Service have issued the freeze warning to make sure everyone is aware of the light freeze potential.
The afternoon highs today will move into the upper 50s or lower 60s once again along with gusty northwest winds in the 10 to 20 mph range. I don't think we'll experience the 30mph+ gusts that we recorded yesterday because the pressure gradient will begin to slowly relax this afternoon as the main surface low moves east and the ridge of high pressure settles closer to the region.
The rest of the forecast will remain mild with afternoon highs moving back into the lower 70s Saturday and Sunday with partly cloudy conditions. A weak upper level system will brush the state this weekend and a few showers or storms can't be ruled out. I have opted to keep the 20 pop in the forecast but will resist the urge to bring this slightly higher. The GFS and EURO have both been offering various solutions for this event but with little confidence. A weak boundary may also pass over the area this weekend but the exact timing of this feature is still questionable.
It is a little surprising that both sets of data continue to suggest another major front Tuesday or Wednesday of next week with more cold air and another chance of showers or storms. This would also bring more cold morning lows back to the region Wednesday and Thursday morning of next week.
The World Series:
The Fall Classic starts tonight with Game 1 in St. Louis and
the weather may play a role with a chance of showers and very cool air in the forecast.
