TULSA, Oklahoma -- To become a successful athlete, training is essential.

On Tuesday student athletes in Tulsa got a unique type of training, one that focuses on how drug and alcohol use can affect athletic performance.

It's part of the new F.A.T.E. program, Fighting Addiction Through Education.

The program offers online information about the negative effects of addiction, while also promoting coaching and student leadership.

The director of Tulsa Public Schools Athletic Department says it's important for students to understand.

"It's a changing world, and it's clear to me - it seems like our children are exposed to a lot more at a lot younger age," said Stephanie Spring, Director of Athletics for Tulsa Public Schools.
