BARTLESVILLE, Oklahoma – The hard-throwing Bartlesville Bruins quarterback has some decisions to make. Kirby Schoenthaler is narrowing down his list of schools, and hasn’t ruled out the Golden Hurricane despite questions surrounding the team’s head coaching vacancy.
“He’s still considering Tulsa, whoever the coach is,” said Schoenthaler’s coach, Ron Smith. “That’s what he told me (Thursday).”
Students are allowed five official visits to campuses to help make decisions about their future. Schoenthaler has a visit to Dartmouth planned for January 21st.
“I know they are high on his list,” Smith said in a phone interview on Thursday.
The absence of Todd Graham and Chad Morris has deterred a few key Tulsa recruits. According to his coach, the athletic senior is weighing his options. Tulsa was interested in Schoenthaler as an athlete.
Schoenthaler scored a 32 on his ACT and has scholarship offers from a number of schools including Louisiana-Monroe and Louisiana Tech. It’s unclear if Tulsa would offer him a scholarship or ask him to walk-on.
Smith’s son, Paul, starred at the University of Tulsa and later went on to play the NFL.
National Signing Day is February 2nd. That is the first opportunity for high school seniors to sign official letters of intent. All verbal commitments made before signing an official letter on non-binding.
