TULSA, Oklahoma – The Booker T Washington Hornets faced a tough Talihina team on Wednesday, but earned a 68-56 victory against the feisty Golden Tigers. With this win, the Hornets advance to the championship game of the Tournament of Champions.
The Expo Square Pavilion was the site of a matchup between 2A Talihina - a team that upset East Central on Tuesday - and Booker T Washington - the defending 5A State Champions.
The Golden Tigers kept the score fairly close throughout, trailing by just 9 at the end of the 1st quarter. With one second left in the 2nd quarter, Hornet guard Dominique Alexander hit a three that gave Booker T a 36-23 lead – and momentum – going into half. The Hornets were able to hold off Talihina the rest of the way for the 12-point win.
Booker T Washington will play in the Tournament of Champions championship game on Thursday at 8:30 pm. The Hornets last won the tournament in 2001.
