CLAREMORE, Oklahoma -- The Claremore Zebras got off to a quick start and never looked back against the Edison Eagles in a 34-9 victory Friday.
Claremore freshman quarterback Matt Whatley was impressive with a 43-yard run on his first drive. Teammate Chase Talbert took it 23 yards on the same drive to put the Zebras up 7-0 early in the first.
Whatley then converted a 35-yard touchdown pass and Talbert had another short touchdown run to put the Zebras up 20-0.
Edison's first points came on a safety in the second, when Josh Jones took down Whatley in the end zone to make it 20-2.
Edison struck again at the end of the third with a 1-yard touchdown run to pull to within 20-9. But the Zebras finished out the contest with the final two touchdowns to give them a 25-point victory.
Claremore (2-3) will head to Pryor to take on the Tigers, while Edison (1-4) will host Tahlequah.
