SPERRY, Oklahoma – Sperry scored two early touchdowns against Claremore Sequoyah and never looked back, winning 32-14 on Friday night.
The Eagles dug themselves into a deep hole when Zac Devore fumbled the opening kickoff. The Pirates capitalized on the good field position as Bennie Driver put Sperry up 7-0 with a 13-yard touchdown run.
Claremore Sequoyah lost the ball again on the ensuing kickoff and the Pirates were primed for another score. Sperry could not maintain possession, though, as the Eagles recovered a bad exchange in the backfield.
After Claremore Sequoyah failed to tie the score, a long punt return by Blake Teel set up Sperry’s second touchdown. Aaron Beats did the rest with a 20-yard score and the Pirates led 13-0 with just over two minutes remaining in the first.
Sperry put 19 more on the board and rolled to a 2-0 record. The Pirates will travel to Muldrow next week, while the Eagles visit Glenpool.
