OKLAHOMA CITY – The Southeast Spartans are fighting against several difficult obstacles, but they are focused more on improvement and not on their circumstances.
The Spartans won just two games last season in Class 4A, and will now be moving up a class into one of the toughest districts in the state. They also lack overall size, which will make several of their district match-ups difficult.
But Southeast isn’t throwing in the towel. The Spartans spent much of the summer focused on bulking up to help combat their size disadvantage, and the players noted that they have already seen a difference.
Head coach Mike Branch added that he uses former University of Oklahoma standout and current Tampa Bay Buccaneer defensive tackle Gerald McCoy. McCoy played his high school ball at Southeast and has repeatedly come back to talk to the current players.
