SHAWNEE, Oklahoma -- It was almost too easy for Brayle Brown in 2009.

The 6-2, 180-pound Shawnee quarterback passed for 2,688 yards and 31 touchdowns. He ran for another 894 yards and 11 touchdowns on the ground.

He led his team to an undefeated regular season in 5A.

But this year, he will have to try it against the best teams in the state as Shawnee makes the jump to 6A.

Not only are the Wolves moving to another level of competition, but they also have to take on the best competition that level has to offer. In its first year at Oklahoma’s highest level, Shawnee is set to face schools such as Jenks, Broken Arrow and Southmoore.

But Brown said he and his teammates are up for the challenge.

“I think if we just focus on playing the game and not focus on the names like Jenks and Southmoore and let that intimidate us,” he said. “That’s how they beat most teams is just by their tradition.”

In the midst of the action, Brown will be taking play calls from his father and coach, Billy.

Billy Brown has coached Shawnee for a number of years, including several with Brayle’s older brother, Tucker, manning the quarterback position for the Wolves.

Brown said he and his father keep football out of their home relationship, but are just like any other quarterback and coach on the field.

“He’s definitely harder on me, because he just expects more,” Brown said. “You are supposed to do that with your quarterback.”

Brown also plays baseball and basketball but said football is his favorite sport and the one he wants to focus on at the next level.

He has received an offer from Louisiana-Monroe as well as interest from several Big 12 schools, North Texas, Vanderbilt, Arizona and Arizona State.
