TULSA, Oklahoma -- One night after scoring 31 points in the state quarterfinals, Cameron Downing had 19 points to propel Memorial to a 60-51 state semifinal win over Claremore.
C.J. Wells added 10 for the Chargers, while Alex Miller led Claremore with a double-digit effort.
After Memorial took a 15-10 lead into the second quarter, turnovers and fouls plagued the Zebras. Memorial scored nine of its 13 second quarter points at the free throw line and went into the break on top 28-16.
Claremore fought back in the third quarter and cut the Memorial lead to eight points on a Miller three-pointer. However, the momentum shifted back to the Chargers before the end of the quarter with a Downing dunk that extended the Memorial lead to 41-30.
Downing fouled out with four minutes remaining in the game, but still managed to score nine points in the fourth quarter.
Memorial returns to the Mabee Center on Saturday for the 5A state title game at 1 p.m.
