OKLAHOMA CITY – The Boynton-Moton girls stormed out of the gates and built a huge lead that even a big second-half run could not overcome on the way to an 81-64 victory over Frontier Friday.
Trailing by one early in the game, the Lady Cardinals went on a 15-0 run to take a commanding lead they never surrendered. They dominated on both ends of the court during that span, forcing five consecutive turnovers and turning all five into points.
Boynton finished the first quarter with 22 points, the same number Frontier scored in the first two quarters combined. The Cardinals scored 50 points in the half, more than any other Class B girls team in an entire game Friday.
Frontier turned things around in the second half, but it was too late. The Lady Mustangs started the half on a 17-5 run and outscored Boynton 19-9 in the third quarter, but still trailed by 18 going into the fourth.
Frontier outscored Boynton again in the fourth quarter and made the final score much closer than the beginning of the game would have indicated.
Four players – Breanna Hutchinson, Sherri Lang, Shawonda Lang and Tamara Thomas – combined to score all 81 of the Cardinals’ points. Hutchinson led all scorers with 33, Sherri Lang scored 20, Shawonda Lang finished with 17 and Thomas added 11.
Boynton-Moton now advances to the Class B finals, where it will play the winner between Cyril and Forgan at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.
