COWETA, Oklahoma -- Coweta girls’ head coach Krista Ragan-Binam and assistant coach Nathan Binam have been asked to resign their coaching positions Coweta Athletic Director Tim Johnson said Friday. The husband and wife duo will be allowed to remain as teachers at the school. Johnson said the decision had nothing to do with win-loss record.
“The school district decided to go a different direction with the program,” Johnson said. “The timing couldn’t be worse. At no time was it the administration’s intent to disrupt this season.”
Johnson said the resignations were a joint decision between Superintendent Jeff Holmes, Principal Doyle Burress and Johnson.
“It was not a planned thing,” Johnson said. “We did not go into the season with the intent to remove our coaches in the middle of the season.”
Former Coweta principal and girls’ and boys’ coach Henry Bias is taking over the team on an interim basis. Steve Lynch will serve as an assistant.
The Binam’s did not return calls seeking comment.
