OOLOGAH, Oklahoma – The Mannford Pirates forced the Sperry Pirates to walk the plank in Friday night’s Oologah High School Basketball Tournament. Four Mannford players scored in double-figures in a 62-37 rout.
Mannford won the tournament’s consolation bracket. Will Rogers topped the Pirates in round one before Mannford bounced back against Dewey.
Sperry looked strong out of the gate with six quick points. The Pirates got the ball down low to CJ Cole early and often. The 6-foot-7 sophomore towered over the Mannford defense and dumped in 19 points against the Pirates. The tallest player on Mannford’s roster is 6-foot-3, and Cole used his height to his advantage during the first half.
Mannford had to rely on its quickness and outside shooting to score. Garrick Prelesnick knocked down a few early shots and helped set the tone on offense. Tad Jones, Drake Boone, and Jordan Poulter joined Prelesnick in scoring double-digits. Boone led the team with 14 points. The quartet combined for 48 of the team’s 62 points.
Mannford will travel back to Oologah on Tuesday to take on the Mustangs in their next game.
