The Guthrie Blue Jays will face a familiar foe in the 5A state semifinals Friday night in the Bixby Spartans. The Spartans and Blue Jays have faced each other in the playoffs three out of the past four years. Bixby was the state runner-up in 2007. The state champion was none other than Guthrie.

Both teams come in with 8-4 records. Two of Guthrie's losses came from District 5A-2 opponents, Carl Albert – which is also in the 5A state semifinals – and Shawnee – which was eliminated by Bixby in round two.

Guthrie upset Duncan 20-12 in round one, and held off Tulsa East Central 25-24 in round two.

The semifinal matchup will be held at Stillwater High School at 7:30 on Friday. Be sure and log onto Oklahoma Sports for all the scores and highlights.
