OKLAHOMA CITY - The former Executive Secretary of the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association, Danny Rennels, has been charged with embezzlement according to court documents.
Rennels was fired in March after being accused of using association money and credit for personal reasons. The 58-year-old is accused of embezzling $457,000 since September 2005.
He worked for OSSA since 1991, an organization that oversees Oklahoma high school sports. He had served since 1999 as the OSSAA's top official.
Last Wednesday, independent auditor Jerry Putnam told the OSSAA board of directors that his audit showed the organization's assets as of June 30 as around $100,000 less than a year ago. Putnam said then there have been talks of restitution between Rennels and the OSSAA.
A warrant was out for Rennels' arrest Friday, but he posted $2,000 bond according to court documents.
Rennels appeared in court to be arraigned Monday.
