BROKEN ARROW, Oklahoma -- Broken Arrow Police say they're seeing an increase car break-ins so they're warning residents about a growing trend called "car hopping."

According to Broken Arrow Police, car hopping is where thieves go car to car looking for an unlocked door.  When they find one, they rummage through the vehicle taking whatever they can find, including loose change.

Police say they often see more than one person involved in the break-ins. A second person usually serves as a look out while the first thief checks for unlocked cars.

Broken Arrow Police issued the following tips to avoid being victimized by this type of crime:

• Always remove valuables from your vehicle
• Lock your car doors
• Park car in garage if possible, second best choice would be driveway
• Report suspicious activity to the police
