TULSA, Oklahoma – Union High School announced via Twitter Sunday that its football season opener against Louisiana powerhouse Evangel Christian will be broadcast live on ESPNU. The two teams will meet at Union-Tuttle Stadium on Sept. 2.
The Redskins beat Evangel in their season opener last year in Shreveport, 44-32. It was one of only two losses on the season for the Eagles. They finished 2010 with a 10-2 record.
Evangel has 12 state titles to its name. MaxPreps, a high school sports website, ranks Evangel as the fourth best high school football program in Louisiana over the past five seasons. The Eagles are 49-8 over that stretch. They last won the 2A state title in 2009.
Union has won the past three 6A state titles, including a dramatic come-from-behind win over rival Jenks last season. The Redskins went 13-1 last year. Their only loss came in the second game of the year against Jenks, 33-7.
