McCURTAIN, Oklahoma -- An Oklahoma mother drowned in a McCurtain County river Friday trying to save her 12-year-old daughter, who also drowned.
The two were swimming in the Lower Mountain Fork River near a dam when the 12-year-old girl was suddenly swept over by the current.
The mother, Shekinah Gable, 33, tried to rescue her daughter but was swept over the dam herself, according to an accident report.
The two victims were later found in four feet of water.
The 12-year-old girl was wearing personnel floatation device, the mother was not, according to the report.
