TULSA, Oklahoma -- Friday is the Tulsa area's first Ozone Alert day of 2011.

The Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality says the alert for June 3, 2011 is for all of the Tulsa metropolitan area.

The DEQ says persons with lung or heart disease should be aware that increased pollution may cause them to experience adverse health effects.

The DEQ is offering some suggestions for residents to help decrease risk associated with higher levels of ozone.

  • Leave your car at home. Walk, bike, carpool, ride the bus or telecommute.
  • Avoid long idle times. Walk in rather than drive thru.
  • Postpone refueling. Wait until evening or not at all.
  • Postpone mowing and using other gas-powered lawn tools.
  • Postpone errands. Do them another day.

Monitor the city of Tulsa's Ozone Alert status throughout the day on Friday at DEQ's website, www.ozonealert.com.
