Lets hold off on the Bill Blankenship-John Phillips comparisons for now.  Partly because Coach Phillips is a great guy and the comparison is a reminder of the way the end of his T-U coaching career went.  And partly because Blankenship certainly deserves the benefit of the doubt because of his track record at Union High School.

Its not a bad thing to hire a coach who views his new job as a "dream job" of sorts.  Mike Gundy calls OSU his "New York Yankees job" and that has worked out well for all parties.

And whos to say that Blankenship wouldnt leave for a BCS job after 3 or 4 successul seasons?

Blankenship brings consistency and thats something T-U needs immediately.  They have a terrific team, espcially on offense, coming back next season.  Their non-conference schedule is brutal with OSU and Boise State, but the Golden Hurricane will have a chance to contend in Conference USA.

The first two orders of business are 1. Recruiting and 2. Recruiting.  National signing day is 3 weeks away and the T-U staff was gutted by Todd Grahams departure and the carrying with him of three assistants.  Chad Morris went to Clemson as well.

Blankenship says he will keep three members of the staff remaining.  They have their work cut out for them.
