Okay, the high school football playoffs begin this weekend.  There’s not much better in the state of Oklahoma than postseason high school football.  Here are my fearless state championship predictions.  Don’t hold me to them. 6A:  Jenks.  I’ve seen them several times.  You should take up a collection of the best players on all of the other teams and beat the Trojans.  They’ve been on a mission and playing with a chip on their shoulders since week 1. 5A:  Guthrie.  A bit of a surprise, but I love their momentum and their defense.  5 shutouts in 10 games?!  And not against a bunch of patsies. 4A:  Broken Bow.  Because my wife has relatives down there and I hope they will welcome me this summer.  But I think we could see a darkhorse in this very deep class.  Could be Clinton or Glenpool. 3A:  Heritage Hall.  I’ve seen nothing to make me think otherwise.  But Cascia Hall has been on a mission since its opening game loss to Holland Hall.  What the Hall is going on here? 2A:  Millwood.  The Falcons are just too talented.  They had some good early-season tests and then cruised through district play.  The only thing that can derail their title dreams is an injury or two. A:  Okeene.  This is perhaps the deepest class in the state and Woodland, Cashion and Afton also have a chance.  I’m going with the Whippets though.   B:  Cherokee.  It looks to me as though the Chiefs have played the toughest schedule and nobody has played them closer than 20 points (and that was a 9-win Laverne team). C:  Covington-Douglas.  Their only loss is to top-ranked Deer Creek-Lamont in the final week of the regular season.  I smell a rematch.
