I don't know if Bob Stoops was interested or still is in the Notre Dame head coaching vacancy, but I take him at his word when he says he will be at Oklahoma next season.
I think the Irish will end up with Cincinnati's Brian Kelly or Boise State's Chris Peterson. Kelly and Peterson may not be the grand slam that Stoops or Meyer would be, but either would be at least an inside the park home run.
It's hard to blame Notre Dame for going after Stoops and Meyer. Many people thought that Alabama's day had passed. Critics said that school officials and fans overvalued the program and the school couldn't attract a big-time coach. Then they got Nick Saban who may win a national title this season.
Strange that 'Bama and Notre Dame have something in common other than national titles: Recent head coaching scandals. The Tide hired Mike Price in 2003, but an alleged strip club fiasco led to his firing before he even coached a game. Alabama suffered through Mike Shula before hiring Saban. The Golden Domers hired George O'Leary in 2001, but he was force to resign after 5 days due to a resume discrepancy. The Irish have suffered through Tyrone Willingham and Charlie Weis. Will someone out there be their Saban?
