In the Big 12 Coaches' Teleconference shocker of the year, this afternoon Mike Gundy said that Brandon Weeden is now the number 2 quarterback for the Cowboys, behind Zac Robinson. Anyone with eyes could see last night that the 26 year old, former minor league pitcher from Edmond Santa Fe was the more effective back-up, but Gundy's words revealed the reason why Alex Cate got the start against Colorado instead of Weeden. Gundy said that Weeden had looked bored at practice at times, and that he hoped his play would encourage the sophomore to study and prepare better.
Zac Robinson will start against the Sooners a week from Saturday, but in Weeden at least now the Cowboys know they have a back-up signal caller with an absolute rifle of a right arm, and he isn't afraid to use it.
