GREENVILLE, N.C. – The Tulsa softball team continued to show no signs of slowing down, routing the University of Central Florida 6-1 on Friday to advance in the Conference USA tournament.
The Golden Hurricane advances to the championship game with the win and will face the winner of the No. 1 Houston vs. No. 5 East Carolina semifinal.
Samantha Cobb got the scoring going quickly for TU, homering in the third at-bat of the game to also score Jill Barrett.
UCF’s only run of the game came in the third inning on a solo homer from Patrice Fee. The home run halted a streak of 42 straight innings for Tulsa without giving up a run. It was the first run the Golden Hurricane has allowed in the past seven games.
But that accomplishment for the Knights didn’t give them any momentum. In the fifth inning, an error from the UCF catcher resulted in scores from Lacey Middlebrooks and Caitlin Everett. A single from Aimee Creger drove in Skylar Swanson to make the score 5-1.
Tulsa added another run in the sixth for good measure.
Creger was impressive as usual in the circle, throwing the full game and giving up a run and four hits in the win.
The C-USA Championship Game will take place at 1 p.m. Saturday and will be broadcast on CBS Sports Network.
